Knox Street Pub, that little bar on the left on McKinney (yes, McKinney and not Knox Street… odd?) that you can’t miss because of its bright orange neon sign, isn’t to be missed for more reasons than its flamboyant signage.  The food at this late-night hot spot makes happy hour at Knox a must-try.

Let me paint a picture for you … ready?  You sidle up to the bar, order your vodka-so-and-so, take a sip, cringe slightly because it’s delightfully potent, and peruse the menu.  You see Irish Nachos and think, “Hm, I wonder what makes the Irish version different.  I should try them out.”  My child, you have made the right choice.  Get ready for a huge skillet to be placed in front of you boasting sliced potatoes, cheese, and all the fixins.  Flip them over and eat them from the bottom – it’s inexplicably better.

The portions are huge so try to share.  The salad was perhaps larger than my purse (which is big) and had a very generous portion of chicken.  I only wish I had a big enough stomach to try one of everything at KSP.  During happy hour, it’s not too crowded so you can find a spot at the bar or on the large patio to spread out and enjoy your meal and drinks.

Let’s revisit those potent drinks, shall we?  I chose to go the way of the thrifty folk and have wells.  I suppose it was my undoing for the night (seeing as I didn’t say uncle until after a few more at another unnamed location) … but they were sure strong!  Seeing as the non-well drinks are still pretty decently priced, go ahead and treat yourself to the upgrade.  Their beer selection is also pretty decent for a bar that doesn’t specialize in it.  Shots (hell, any drinks) here will do you in … call a cab or have a DD – don’t be stupid.

Quick overview of high points:  
-LOTS of TVs.  
-UT grad?  Watch the game here b/c it’s the official bar of the Texas Exes
-Misters on the patio (watch out girls with s flat-ironed hair, don’t get too close!)
-On the weekends the dance floor is always full.  Don’t worry: it’s a limited number of fist-pumpers and mostly the cute SMU girls that think anything north of Blackburn is considered “slumming it”.
-Thursday through Saturday they have a DJ playing a pretty good mix — if you want a song played that he won’t play, apparently you can just go ask the manager and he’ll lean on the DJ in your stead.

If you haven’t been here yet, go in for a happy hour first to ease into it.  Once you think you’re ready, jump in on a weekend night with both feet and have yourself a dance … or seven.
