greenville bar and grill - CLOSED
Greenville Bar and Grill was a complete surprise. I’ve seen it driving down Greenville many-a-time but never made it in … until last night. The “oldest bar in Dallas” (est. 1933) was anything but a typical Greenville Bar.
The history of this bar was somewhat entertaining: after being shut down quite a few years ago for building code violations (eek!), Merkow’s...

jorge's tex mex
While I love to tell you how great bars are, I also love to tell you which ones not to waste your time on. I had high hopes for Jorge’s because, let’s face it, I like that they spell George with a J (should out to my Cuban friend, Dr. J!). Sadly, my experience here wasn’t great.
When we walked in we were sold on choosing Jorge’s over The Screen Door because I spotted...

ravenna
I am always a bit reticent to head into the traffic-packed cement jungle that is downtown Dallas, but I am quite glad I braved the traffic on this Wednesday evening. Since I didn’t have to go too far into the mess, I was glad to spend some time at Ravenna.
Ravenna is a pretty darn authentic Italian restaurant nestled on the corner of Main and Field. The feel of the restaurant is cozy...

I suppose it was inevitable that I would end up reviewing a chain. While I don’t love chains, this one wasn’t too shabby aside from one major hitch in the giddy-up (since this site is for Dallasites, I feel that I can use Texasisms!).
$3.50 margaritas usually wouldn’t impress me but these come in a hefty glass and you get your choice of regular, strawberry, or swirl (sadly,...

libertine bar
Did you know that it’s possible to spend 7 hours in a bar and not realize it? Well, I haven’t done it in 3-1/2 years but Thursday night proved that it isn’t too difficult to do at the right bar. We ate, we drank, we laughed, and we enjoyed the Libertine Bar quite a bit.
Between the two of us, we tried every drink on the classic cocktail menu and then some - and they were...

the hacienda on henderson
All I can say is, “What a night.” Not only is a Tuesday at Hacienda $3 margarita night, but as it turns out, it’s also the night they bring in liquor companies to hand out samples. Needless to say, we enjoyed ourselves.
I got there before everyone else and the waitress took the time to have a chat with me so I wasn’t sitting alone for too long (how nice!). When my...

sushi axiom
We strolled into Sushi Axiom for our reverse happy hour after a glass at Veritas and a quick meetup at Capitol Pub on a Thursday night. The bar was somewhat full but the restaurant wasn’t. We opted for a table on their huge patio since it was a nice night and people watching on Henderson is always interesting. Once seated, we ordered some rolls and a sampler. While not a sushi...

ch-ch-changes
Walking into my favorite pizza place in Dallas last week, it felt different … and I liked it. The new menu items sound incredible and the extra seating made me hopeful that I’d never have to face another 45 minute wait for a table!
The pizza at Coal Vines is TO DIE. My best friend from Austin orders a white pizza (not the white special) to take back with her each time she visits. ...

Dubliner
I walked into the Dubliner for only the second time ever last night and the rush of one of the more fun Sunday nights I had this year came over me. The last time I was there I was having so much fun I lost track of time and paid for it with a hangover the next day at work.
While there weren’t many people there on a Wednesday (it seemed people were more interested in Mexican food last...

in vino veritas
Move over Vino 100, take a step back, Cork … there’s a new kid in town. Veritas Wine Bar on Henderson took me by surprise. I hadn’t been in until this week and walking in on Monday night was a breathe of albeit grape heavy, but fresh air.
I arrive before the rest of my party as is usually the case, so I sidled up to the tall, heavy bar and began to peruse the menu. I...

Elbow Room
I’d love to write a review about this place … but I wasn’t there long enough to even order.
I was SO excited to try this place but upon walking in, one of the waiters - I believe he may have been the owner and will from now on be called goatee guy or GG - was in a heated conversation with my dad (yes, my dad is awesome and goes out for drinks with me!). Goatee guy stormed off...

My new favourite bartender, Bill, sent me over to one of the places he serves his potions. Sadly he wasn’t there, but the drinks were still pretty darn good. We started with frozen limoncello which reminded me of a drink from childhood but with alcohol - it was tres refreshing.
Allison and I had a couple well drinks and a blanco pizza (YUM!) but were sadly forced to cut the night...

PARTY TIME!
Thanks to my great readers, friends, and family my site is about to hit 1,000 followers! Not bad for a website done with no budget, eh?!
I’d love to have suggestions for places you think my party should be - leave comments and I’ll get in touch with the venue to see if it will work. If you are a bar owner and want me to have my party at your place … let me know!

trece
I’ve heard about the ladies night at Trece but always seem to be busy on Thursdays. I finally made it in and it was quite interesting. Trece has always been a magnet for the lounge lizards of Dallas and the Thursday before Halloween was no exception. We rubbed elbows with Balloon Boy, pirate hookers, and a cute sailor who just happened to be our waiter.
My friend was running a bit...

McCormick and Schmick's
My favorite thing about writing these reviews is that I get recommendations for places I never would have thought had a good happy hour. Case and point: McCormick and Schmick’s. My brilliant friend Matt told me about their killer happy hour specials and they really are incredible. Where else could you get an entire meal at a nice seafood restaurant including drinks for $22?
Here’s...
